According to data released by the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers, domestic automobile production and sales completed 27.021 million and 26.864 million units respectively in 2022. The production and sales of new energy vehicles increased by 96.9% and 93.4% year-on-year, ranking first in the world for the 14th consecutive year. 
In 2022, China became the world's second largest exporter which exported 3.11 million vehicles. According to the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers, 3.11 million vehicles were exported last year, up 54 percent year-on-year. China ranked sixth in auto exports in 2021 but surged to second place last year. Since the 2000s, Japan has been the world’s largest automobile exporter. Although official annual exports were not disclosed last year, the company is expected to export 3.2 million vehicles by November 2022, keeping it at the top of the list.
Last year, the United States ranked third after China with 2.8 million vehicles exported. Germany followed with 2.61 million and South Korea with 2.31 million. Japan exported 3.82 million vehicles in 2021, ranking first in the world, but last year's exports are expected to decline slightly year-on-year.
Japan's auto exports are on a declining trend, while China is growing rapidly and is likely to overtake Japan in the next two to three years. In particular, China is showing strong exports of electric vehicles which is in stark contrast to Japan, where exports of electric vehicles are negligible.
As surprising as the news of China becoming the second largest exporter of cars is the trend of Chinese exports by year. After exporting 990,000 units in 2020 and more than 2 million units in 2021. The number is expected to increase by more than 1 million each year to 3.11 million by 2022. China's top auto exporter is SAIC Motor. And SAIC Motor's overseas sales in 2022 were about 0.9 million units (MG's overseas sales in 2022 were above 450,000 units, Maxus's oversea sales in 2022 were above 2200,000 units), Chery's oversea sales in 2022 were about 452,000 units, 2022 Changan oversea sales were about 250,000 units, DFM (Dongfeng) oversea sales 2022 were about 242,000 units, GEELY oversea sales 2022 were about 200,000 units, Great Wall (including Haval and GMW brand) oversea sales 2022 were about 173000 units, JAC oversea sales 2022 were about 115,000 units, BAIC oversea sales 2022 were about 110,000 units.
